Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Coming Oct 10th

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note tablet with a 10 inch screen, support for pressure-sensitive pen input, and a high-resolution display will be available in the US starting October 10th. Pre-orders for the Sasmung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition start September 27th, and prices start at $550.

That makes the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) kind of expensive for an Android tablet, but it’s only $50 more than the starting price for an iPad, and Samsung’s tablet can do many things that an Apple tablet cannot.

For starters, the Galaxy Note has an active digitizer and comes with a digital pen which you can use to write or draw on the screen. You can also use that pen to interact with special apps to do things like scrolling through a video by hovering the pen over the display.

Samsung’s tablets also have a multi-window mode, letting you see multiple apps on the screen at the same time (although this only works with select apps).

Customers also get 3 months of free access to Hulu Plus and SiriusXM, a year of free WiFi hotspot access at Boingo Hotspots, and 50GB of free cloud storage with Dropbox for 2 years. There’s also a 1-year subscription to Bloomberg Businesweek and a 12 week subscription to the New York Times.

The new 2014 Edition tablet is also a step up from the original Galaxy Note 10.1. It features a faster processor, a higher-resolution display, and improved software.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition features a 10.1 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel LCD display, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software, an 8MP rear camera, and a 2MP front-facing camera. It has 3GB of RAM and supports up to 64GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot. There are also 3G and 4G LTE options available.

It also supports 192 kHz, 24-bit audio playback, supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS and GLONASS.

The WiFi-only version features a Samsung Exynos 5420 8-core processor, while the 4G LTE model will have a 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU.

Samsung’s tablet has an 8220mAH battery, measures 9.6″ x 6.7″ x 0.31″ and weighs about 1.2 pounds. It’ll be available in black or white.

At launch, Samsung will offer WiFi-only models with 16GB and 32GB of storage, for $550 and $600, respectively. It should be available at Best Buy, Amazon, TigerDirect, Walmart, and other retailers as well as from Samsung.com.
