ZTE sells about 100,000 Firefox OS phones

ZTE officials say the company has sold about 100,000 units so far. While that’s not a lot of money compared with the top iPhone or Android phone sales figures, ZTE is happy enough with the way things are going to commit to launching a second Firefox OS phone in 2014.

Firefox OS is an operating system designed to run web apps written using HTML5, JavaScript, and other web technologies.

According to TechHive (and IDG News) the next ZTE phone to run Mozilla’s operating system will feature larger screen, a dual-core processor, and other improvements. But it’s still expected to be a low-cost device.

For now, the company will continue to sell the ZTE Open, an A $80 phone with a 3.5 inch, 320 x 480 pixel display, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A5 single-core processor, 256MB of RAM and 512MB of storage plus a microSD card slot and 3MP camera.
